There are so so so many kids books that we love! Here are just a couple that have to do with gardens, gardening, and cute little farms:
Garden Sounds from Usborne Books- touch little buttons on each page to hear the birds chirp and the bees buzz. One of the few “sound” books I allow in the car because it doesn’t drive me crazy.
Lois Ehlert’s Growing Garden- this comes as a single book, board book, or a set that includes “Growing Vegetable Soup” and “Eating the Alphabet.” The pictures are so bright and fun- great for younger kids!
Otis, by Loren Long- one of our absolute favorite books! This hard-working little tractor and his new friend are adorable on the farm. I think we have all of the Otis books by now…
Pop Up Garden from Usborne Books has bright, sturdy pop-ups that young kids will love.
Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder- can there even be a great books for kids list without including one from the Little House Series?!? My 7 yr old and I started with book 1 of the series and are on the 5th within the same school year. Farmer Boy does a great job describing how a working farm really used to be. All of the kids had chores taking care of the animals, baking, planting, etc, etc. We love this one.
Beatrix Potter- again, how can a list of kids books be complete without the beautiful pictures of cottage gardens in the Beatrix Potter stories. Each of my kids has a different character that they love best.
In the Garden by Scholastic- Ok, the garden they have in this book makes me feel like I need to step up my game! My kids love the foldouts, which show the different fruits and vegetables w/names.
Happy Reading!!
