Whether you have 2 fruit trees or 50, you’re likely to find it both fun and rewarding- we certainly do! One single apple, plum, or peach tree can produce so much fruit that you may find yourself learning about canning!
It’s amazing how many different types of trees will grow in any given zone. If you’d have asked me a few years ago what I thought would grow well here (zone 5) – I may have just said a few different kinds of apple and cherry trees, I guess. But plums, peaches, cherries, figs, apricots, etc? Really? Why yes, ma’am!
A couple of things to mention along with this list… First, this orchard was already here when we moved to this house, but we will continue to maintain it and add new trees to it. Second, while this is great list of fruit trees that have done well, there are certainly some that did not. There are a handful of stumps in the orchard where some trees clearly didn’t make it and were cut down- this is a good reminder that not every tree you plant will necessarily survive, even with the best of care. Third, the point of this list is to show that while it is great to plant a few tried-and-true fruit trees, there are also many other choices out there that can survive and be productive.
